Ian works with atmaana’s Defence sector clients and has particular knowledge around Defence technology and acquisition.

A chartered engineer, Ian spent 37 years in the British Army. He commissioned from enlisted ranks into the British Army in 1979 into the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME).

He held command appointments at every rank up to Brigadier, including battalion and brigade command on operations. His staff tours include officer recruiting, technical (CIS) and personnel staff in the Ministry of Defence (MOD), and chief logistician of NATO’s multinational Headquarters Allied Rapid Reaction Corps in Germany and NATO’s coalition Headquarters ISAF in Afghanistan.

His service on operations in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan during the time of NATO expansion led to him being made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

In 2008, Ian spent time as the co-author of the Prime Minister’s Service Personnel Command Paper for the MOD. He was also the senior military leader of a mixed military/civilian team developing cross-government policy and inter-agency cooperation for the support of Armed Forces personnel and families.

Ian then became the Director of Land Equipment for the MOD in Bristol, overseeing 1200 staff. Here, he worked on the procurement, support and disposal of land equipment for the British Army, Navy and Air Force. He also set up a Customer Advisory Board to advise the Minister on Defence Support Group performance, as well as jointly developing and delivering over 1000 new and complex military vehicles, which were urgently required within 18 months for oversees operations.

Since 2011, Ian has led strategically important business growth assignments for a portfolio of blue chip clients.
